Principal Research Officer, Statistics & Analysis , Cambridge AssessmentPrincipal Research Officer, Statistics & Analysis (Job Ref: P00413) Salary £47,200 to £54,800 Location: Cambridge Established over 150 years ago, Cambridge Assessment owns and manages the University's three exam boards and carries out leading-edge academic and operational research on assessment in education. We operate in over 160 countries, and over 8 million learners a year take our assessments. The Research Division contains 24 staff out of a Group-wide total of around 70 researchers. We need an experienced statistician to lead research relating to assessment and examinations, and to provide analysis to support research and policy aspects of the Group's work. The Division's brief includes monitoring the quality and standards of Cambridge Assessment's qualifications; developing strategies for effective evaluation and validation; improving assessment processes; and evaluating new developments such as applications of new technologies in large scale assessment. The successful applicant will have a strong track record of scholarly publications in statistical / quantitative methods and will be capable of initiating and leading debate on statistical aspects of assessment issues. They will direct Cambridge Assessment's work in this area and provide authoritative advice. They can expect to represent the organisation nationally and internationally. A postgraduate qualification in statistics is required, as is extensive relevant experience of the design and management of research projects in education and/or social science. Experience with large databases is essential, as is expertise in multilevel modelling and logistic regression. Excellent written and oral communication skills; and suitable personal skills for line management and for liaison with other staff, clients and national agencies are also necessary. Experience with the statistical package SAS would be an advantage, along with general programming skills. Some knowledge of IRT, SEM, and generalizability theory would also be desirable.
