Statistician in Agricultural Research

Permanent, full time, £27,600-£40,000 plus benefits.   Jealott's Hill, Bracknell, Berkshire.

Syngenta is one of the world's leading companies with more than 25,000 employees in over 90 countries.  As global demand for food and fuel continues to rise, we are dedicated to our purpose: bringing plant potential to life.

Our Biometrics Group actively supports individuals and project groups within our Crop Protection, Biotech and Seeds businesses based in the UK, Switzerland, the USA and elsewhere.  The main requirements of the role in question are (a) to provide specialist advice on the design and conduct of experiments, and (b) to plan, conduct and report on the statistical analysis of key datasets arising from lab, glasshouse and field studies, delivering information of genuine value in an accurate, effective and timely manner.  The projects you will be working on span a wide range of scientific disciplines and, as a consequence, the nature of the work is highly varied and technically challenging.

You will need a good degree in a maths-related subject plus an MSc and/or a directly relevant PhD in statistics, together with an understanding of applied statistics relevant to agricultural research.  You will need to be able to work accurately under pressure, and to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.  A good working knowledge of SAS and a familiarity with biological processes are both desirable but not essential.  In order to fulfil all aspects of the role as described above it is likely that a candidate would need to have considerable relevant experience, but we also invite applications from suitably qualified but less experienced individuals who have the capability and desire to grow into the role.

Jealott's Hill International Research Centre is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings between Bracknell and Maidenhead, and is the place of work for approximately 800 Syngenta scientists and support staff.  Benefits include a company pension scheme, private health insurance and generous holiday entitlement.
